Left Handed Classical Guitar
For years any musician who was left handed was forced to learn the guitar as a right handed person was. This was a serious drawback as right handers had a definite advantage. Moreover, it was unnecessarily frustrating for individuals who were just born using their left hand. Luckily this is no longer the case for musicians looking to enjoy the wonderful sounds of this beautiful instrument that has provided a generous amount of music to the world.
Firstly, because of the symmetric design of these instruments, you can simply use a normal model for both right and left handed persons. Unlike a electric guitar, which are constructed with right handed people in mind, these models do not have this trouble. The only problem is that the strings must be switched from their normal positions. Double check with the balance of your guitar to make sure that it can handle this procedure as the thicker bass strings can cause greater stress on the neck than the thinner treble strings. On especially old guitars this may not be possible.
For models that are designed with an extra curve for a leg rest, like electrics and other acoustics, these models are also available. They may not be possible to find in all music stores, but they can be found online by most major manufacturers. It should be noted that there is a slight price increase because of the rarity compared to models for right handed people, so balancing this expense with comfort using the opposite handed should be considered.
